Small Caps is an invented studio. Its people, its clients, the Modern Register and everything that happened there are fiction, written for this site. The portraits are AI-generated and the photographs come from Unsplash.
This is a demo
This site is the Nohead portfolio starter: a complete Astro site, a portfolio and a journal, whose content (projects, posts, authors, tags and these pages) lives in a Nohead project and is read at build time with the Nohead SDK. Copy it, connect it to your own project, and replace Small Caps with your own story. Its source and setup instructions are on GitHub.
Type
Headlines are set in Inter Tight, by Rasmus Andersson; the text, the interface and the logo in Source Sans 3, by Paul D. Hunt for Adobe. Both are released under the SIL Open Font License. The logo is in Source Sans because it has true small capitals, which, given the name, was not optional.
How it works
Content lives in Nohead: a collection each for projects, posts, authors, tags and pages. A project's gallery is one field holding a list of images, each with its alt text and caption. Editors write and publish in Nohead's editor; drafts never reach this site.
Pages are prerendered by Astro when the site builds, so every page is a plain file served from a CDN.
Publishing sends a webhook that rebuilds the site, so a published post is live about a minute later.
Images are uploaded once, as originals, and every size the design needs comes from the image's address, with nothing exported by hand.
Search runs in your browser, straight against Nohead's search with a search-only token that sees published posts and nothing else.
Colour
Black ink on white paper, and greys in between; no other colour. Photographs are shown in black and white, and a linked one lightens when you point at it. In the dark, the paper goes black and the ink goes white.
