About

Small Caps is a design and development studio of seven, and a dog. We design and build websites, digital products and the identities around them, from a back room in Dublin and a former print shop in Copenhagen.

A concrete staircase floating along a white wall, with a thin metal rail, rising to a bright landing.

What we do

We design and build for the web. Most of our projects are websites and the digital products around them: a walking guide, a booking flow, an archive, a shop. Many start with an identity, because a website is usually where a brand is used most.

We sweat the parts nobody notices. Whether the type holds up on a cheap phone. Whether a page loads under a concrete roof with no signal at all. Whether the people who keep the site up to date can do it without phoning anyone. When those details are right, a website feels calm, quick and obvious, and a redesign three years later is a change of clothes rather than a move of house.

How we work

One small team does the whole job, from the first workshop to the server, so nothing gets lost between a slide and the code.

  1. Strategy. Research and a workshop, or several, with the people who make and use the thing. We find out what it is, who it is for, and what every page and field is for.

  2. Design. Identity, interface and the words on the screen, drawn and written by the same people, and tested where they will be used: on phones, in the rain, from three metres away.

  3. Development. Fast, accessible websites and web apps, built on content the client's own team can edit. We like pages that arrive finished and work without signal.

  4. Handover. The project is finished when nobody needs to call us. Sometimes we keep running what we build; often we hand over the code, a design system and the documentation, and leave.

Where we are

Dublin, since 2019: a first-floor room on a Georgian street, with very tall windows and a kettle that is never cold.

Copenhagen, since 2022, and since April 2026 in a former print shop that closed after sixty years. The type cabinets are now shelves, the press still prints, and we run our workshops at the long table in the front room.

Team

Small Caps is made up.

The studio, its people, its clients and their 1,912 buildings are invented, to show what a site built on Nohead looks like. The projects, posts, people and images live in a Nohead project; Astro builds the site.
